I can’t help but think though that If we really wanted to (as a real one Ummah) we could’ve made it possible (happy Ramadhan, etc.) for our brothers and sisters out there (wherever they are oppressed).
I’m always thinking of the amount of complicity no matter how much we are in denial of it. That boycotting and donating (or jihad ul ma’al, if you would), turning our online profiles into some social justice warrior pages, or just thoughts and prayers — is in fact enough?
I know how absurd this idealism is, bringing back some sort of Muslim caliphate.. but with the non-action taken for almost 5 months, while we watch a genocide unfold right at the tip of our fingers, I’m just left with a void I can’t explain.
Is there a blame to even do? What did we expect from the “Arab Leaders” or Muslim leaders in general? Why did we even expect it, knowing that this didn’t start on October 7th 2023 (but for nearly 8 decades). All along the generations the Ummah of the Muhammad s.a.w. lived their lives with one eye closed to the facts, either not knowing or not wanting to know or understand.
Within the first month of the unfolding of events in Gaza, a fear built up in my heart and I feel restless. As Muslims we remind ourselves daily: From Allah, for Allah, to Allah… We’re not afraid. People say. But with all this happening around us in our knowledge, I fear we should be. How do we account for this?
I know I’m not the only one thinking this way.
